DYNAMO MULTIPLAYER: A REVIT BATCH TOOL THAT CAN DO ANYTHING YOU WANT!

2021-09-27

Many of you have been waiting for project “Zapdos” to be released for a week now. Many small technical issues related to the final publish operation of the app kept coming up, which delayed the release.

However, if it’s not late, it doesn’t belong to the AEC industry, and now it is here, and it’s called…wait for it… Dynamo Multiplayer, and it’s free!

Dynamo Multiplayer is a Revit add-in that can batch process multiple Revit files using Dynamo. So, you just select the models you need to process, and select the Dynamo scripts needed (you can select more than one), and the app would run these scripts over these models automatically while you do something else in the meantime, or go for a coffee or a lunch break, or even go home at the end of the day and leave it working.

Dynamo Multiplayer has been an app that we have been thinking about and working on since the release of our Free NavisExport, a batch NWC exporter, back in 2019.

The release of that app has spawned many user requests urging us to develop a batch processor flexible enough to do anything the user desires. A challenge arises when that needs to be achieved: how can you allow Revit users to perform absolutely any functionality they want? The answer is: through a Dynamo script!

The range of functionalities offered by Dynamo Multiplayer is infinite, as the user can use it to batch export PDF, NWC, DWG, IFC…files from Revit, to batch edit multiple Revit models, to achieve batch project setup, to batch perform quality assessment operations, to batch load families, to batch upgrade models, to batch edit families… and all of that using Dynamo, which provides the user with the highest level of flexibility. That makes Dynamo Multiplayer a universal batch processor for Revit.

Interface

Not only that. Today is the beginning of a new revolutionary age for Revit add-ins: Dynamo Multiplayer is probably the first free public, non-Autodesk Revit add-in ever to use Forge to access BIM 360 (a.k.a BIM Collaborate Pro) models!

Yes, Dynamo Multiplayer uses Forge to retrieve BIM 360 hubs, directories, and C4R cloud models, and can batch process these models using Dynamo!

If you’re wondering about what Forge is exactly and about the back-end technologies used to achieve all that and if you’re interested in acquiring enough knowledge about some of the advanced processes that made this app possible, from the required Forge APIs to some advanced Revit API workflows that were put to good use here, you can check out our free to attend Autodesk University 2021 session which will go live on the 7th of October. Make sure to attend it, we'll be there to answer your questions live! Here’s a link:
