Have you heard of Autodesk Scaleform?

Autodesk Scaleform

Scaleform is originally a gaming company acquired by Autodesk in 2011, providing middleware services to the AEC industry, mainly focused on UI and menu integration within video games.

Unfortunately, Autodesk Scaleform, along with the entire Autodesk Gameware collection (an equivalent to the AEC collection focused on the video gaming industry), was discontinued in 2017.

As disappointing as that is, during its “lifespan”, Autodesk Scaleform was used to power some of the most popular video games ever, including Grand Theft Auto V, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and many other popular games.

So at some point, Autodesk did offer services and products similar to Epic’s Unreal Engine and the Unity Engine, technologies that are being adopted and gaining popularity within the Autodesk dominated AEC sector nowadays.

It seems that the “Conjunction of The Spheres” (can’t mention “The Witcher III” without at least quoting its [SPOILER ALERT!] opening cinematic scene) is inevitable between both the gaming realm and the AEC realm and hopefully it will define the near future of the latter…
